07/12/06, WaterPower - Vietnam hydro capacity to reach 5000MW, By 2010, Vietnam's Central Highlands region is forecast to have a total hydroelectricity generating capacity of 5000MW according to reports by the Vietnamese News Agency. This will be equivalent to one-third of Vietnam's current electricity generating capacity.


 

19/12/06 – BangkokPost - Thailand buys more power from Laos, (TNA) - Thailand on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Laos to buy more electricity from the landlocked country with an aim to cater to the kingdom's rising demand for power and to strengthen the security of the power supply for the future. Under the terms of the MoU signed by Thai Energy Minister Piyasvasti Amaranand and Bosaikham Vongdara, Lao Minister of Energy and Mines, Thailand will increase its purchase level to 5,000 megawatts of electricity from Laos by 2015.

18/12/06 - Gamuda Inks Deal With Thailand's EGAT For Hydropower Project, KUALA LUMPUR, -- Gamuda Bhd, the lead project sponsor of the US$700 million (US$1=RM3.5) Nam Theun 1 (NT1) hydropower project in Laos, Monday signed a tariff agreement with Thailand's Electricity Generating Authority (EGAT) on the future purchase of hydroelectric power to be generated by the project.

29/11/06 – ModernPowerSystems - ABB opens HVDC test facility, The world's first installation for testing 800 kV DC technology has been officially opened by ABB. One of the main aims of the project is to develop a new bushing for 800 kV UHVDC transmission systems that will make it viable to produce electricity in remote regions of China, India, Brazil and Africa, where vast hydropower resources remain untapped.
