15/11/06 - KPL - Thailand to purchase electricity from Laos

Bangkok (VNA) – The Thai Government plans to sign an agreement with Laos to purchase between 3,000 and 5,000 MW of electricity from Laos later this year, Thai Energy Minister Piyasvasti has said.

“5,000 MW is feasible,” he said, adding that the agreement to acquire more power from Laos would enable Thailand to accommodate many new projects.

The power purchase agreement will be signed by the countries’ prime ministers during the opening of the new Thai-Laos Bridge , local sources reported.
